On designing, in advance, the version of your practice small enough to survive a genuinely bad week.

Most guidance about spiritual discipline assumes a baseline of stability that not every week actually offers. This episode is for the weeks that don't offer it.
Grief, illness, ordinary exhaustion. None of that is a moral failure, and a practice that can't flex to meet it isn't a robust practice. It's a fragile one that was only ever tested on easy weeks.
What we talk through in this episode is a specific idea: before the bad week arrives, decide in advance what the smallest honest version of your practice looks like. Not the version you do on a good day. The version you could still do sick, grieving, or simply out of capacity.
For one of us, that's a single breath taken with real intention. For another, it's touching a familiar object without performing the full ritual around it. The specific form matters less than having decided on it ahead of time, so the bad week doesn't also require the extra labor of inventing something from scratch.
